This is an unusual film about a mad doctor who keeps a monster in the basement. It's unusual for two reasons, one being the mad doctor is a woman, which was strange for the time, and the other was the fact that the film had an all-black cast, which was also unusual, especially for this kind of movie.

Subject: The First Black Sci-Fi Film
The quality of the film is good at best. But is holds a place in the annals of history due to being the first black sci-fi film. It is now 2011, and we have produced a few black sci-fi films since them.

In that restrospect, The Son of Ingagi is a tremendous feat.

This is my first time seeing a classic black horror movie.n What makes it special is that these folks had very little money, training and no distribution. But they got it done. What else you got?

Subject: Not the missing link
A cantankerous yet kindhearted lady scientist does her best to help humanity - the only problem is there's a giant ape-man living in her basement. This is an extremely low-budget comic-horror quickie, but that doesn't stop some of the horror scenes from being effective. Much of the comedy works as well. It's mostly provided by a bumbling police detective, played by Spencer Williams, who also wrote the story and screenplay. With the exception of Laura Bowman's solid performance as the lady scientist, the rest of the cast is uneven. There are two fine swing numbers performed on screen by the Four Toppers quartet. Not exactly a black cinema classic, but an hour's worth of fun, and a good example of what can be done on almost no budget. CAST NOTE: Actor, director, story writer, screenplay writer and music composer, the multitalented Spencer Williams may be recognized by some as Andy from the "Amos and Andy" TV series (1951 - 52). He also was inducted into the Song Writers' Hall of Fame for "Basin Street Blues" and many more like it.
